Security Checks

Some governments may request the National Security Authority that, prior to access to sensitive functions, buildings or events to perform a security check be performed on the persons involved. Depending on the legal basis of the investigation the National Security Authority delivers, after the screening, either a security attestation or a security advice.

Asking for a Security Certificate

Certain authorities having security competence may decide to impose the possession of a security attestation prior to access to buildings, rooms or areas. A security attestation may apply to certain public buildings or on special events such as meetings of the European Heads of State and Government held in Brussels.

Asking for a Security Advice

Administrative authorities may request the National Security Authority that a safety investigation be carried out prior to the access to certain professions, buildings or land. This applies if abuse in the exercise of a function or presence in sensitive areas can harm the fundamental interests of the Belgian State.
